BeeLife's members share one common goal: improving environmental conditions for the future of bees, biodiversity and ourselves. Bees are a great indicator of what is going on in the environment, so protecting bees means protecting wildlife in general and our future.
Do you wish to become a member of BeeLife?
After years of collaboration, beekeepers and beekeeping associations concerned for their bees and the environment joined together in 2013 to protect the great value of our pollinators at European level.
In the '90s appeared in Europe the phenomenon of the disappearance of the bees and weakening of their colonies. This phenomenon continues to affect regions with industrialised agriculture, including Europe, South and North America, Asia, and even some African countries.
Several hypotheses have been proposed as the cause for the bee colony loss phenomenon, but Beekeepers, based on evidence, have long made unsustainable agricultural practices, including pesticide use, responsible.
In order to counteract this phenomenon, BeeLife is aiming to:

Achieve a Risk Assessment of pesticides on bees that recognizes all existing routes of exposure in a chronic form.

Re-evaluating pesticides taking into account the amendments proposed in Risk Assessment.

Improving collaborations between pollinators and agriculture, ensuring a win-win situation for sustainability and food security.

Board of Directors
Analysis
BeeLife takes a vigilant role on several aspects closely linked to the health of bees, pollinators in general and biodiversity in Europe. We focus on:

Pesticides regulation, its implementation and its effects.

The future of the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
BeeLife's work on these issues includes direct contact with other stakeholders and with its own members, as well as the preparation of publications for authorities and the general public.
Campaigns
The importance of pollinators is a concern of all citizens who depend on a healthy environment and a sustainable agriculture. BeeLife helps spread the word through:

Civil Campaigns through the Save the Bees Coalition and other joint efforts from civil society.

Support to European Citizen Initiatives (ECIs) such as "Stop Glyphosate" or the ongoing Save Bees and Farmers ECI.

Raising awareness of the importance of pollinators and their relation to biodiversity and food security.

Co-organising the European Bee and Pollination Week at the European Parliament.
Helping shape the future
Thanks to the expertise of its team and its close link to the beekeeping world, BeeLife is able to provide significant insights and analysis of current and future European policies through:

Active engagement as a registered stakeholder in the EU Bee Partnership dynamised by the European Food Safety Authority.

Participation in Civil Dialogue Groups in the European Commission.

Direct contact with European policymakers, providing the necessary information to create a safer environment for pollinators and ourselves.
Projects
BeeLife also takes an active role in the innovations for bee and pollinator health.
We lead the development of the EU Pollinator Hub. A new online platform to centralise and visualise data related to pollinators.
We were also partners the EU-funded project The Internet of Bees (IoBee) (2017-2020).
The project aimed at
Disrupting the beehive digital monitoring market by developing and improving cutting-edge digital monitoring systems for beehives and pollinators, paired with spatial decision support system (SDSS).
